Modified COVID vaccine approved for regular use

The United Kingdom is the first country in the world to approve a modified Corona vaccine from the Moderna company. The British Medicines Agency released the new drug, which is supposed to protect against multiple variants, for use today.

The Moderna vaccine is a so-called bivalent vaccine, which means that it works against several variants of the virus. Thus, it works against both the original Corona variant and the later Omicron variant. Also against the youngest sub-variants of Omikron that were currently around, such as BA.4 and BA.5, the vaccine would provide good resistance according to Moderna.

The European Union will allow Moderna’s new vaccine later this year, experts expect. A new bivalent drug from competitor Pfizer / BioNTech is also on the nomination to be approved.

Experts note that the number of Corona infections may start to rise again in the fall.
