Six arrests after high speed M62 chase ended in police officer’s horror bridge crash

A police officer was left with a serious leg injury after crashing into a motorway bridge. Police have issued their latest update after a horror M62 bridge crash that left an officer with serious injuries in hospital.

The police officer miraculously survived the crash after a late-night high-speed chase on Friday night, September 3, in a bid to stop a car.

A red Seat Ibiza – which police were attempting to stop when the crash happened – was also destroyed.

It was confirmed that a West Yorkshire Police officer suffered serious leg injuries in the crash – but that their condition is not life threatening. The crash happened when two police vehicles tried to stop the Seat as it headed along the eastbound carriageway of the M62 near West Cowick at 11.24pm on Friday (September 3).

One of the police cars left the carriageway and smashed into the Finney’s Lane bridge.

The road was closed in both directions until Saturday lunchtime, with the eastbound carriageway only reopening late in the afternoon.
