Harehills shop assistant’s odd behaviour leads police to huge haul of illegal cigarettes

A huge haul of illegal cigarettes worth £30,000 was found at a Leeds shop after the assistant started acting odd.

Police Community Support Officers (PCSO) Whitworth and Chatband grew suspicious of the Harehills shop assistant’s behaviour while on a routine visit to the shop.

They saw the assistant trying to hide the huge pile of 3,000 cigarettes and rolling tobacco in a back room.

The PCSOs alerted their fellow officers, who discovered the stash and seized it on behalf of trading standards.

West Yorkshire Police has not disclosed the name of the shop following the raid yesterday.
