COVID-19 restriction eased a bit as infection rates go down

The strict coronavirus measures of recent times are being relaxed somewhat. From Monday up to six people can meet outside and outdoor sports are allowed again. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson stresses that it is important to remain cautious.

According to Johnson, the increasing number of coronavirus infections in parts of Europe and the threat of new variants of the virus are worrying.

“Despite the easing that starts today, everyone has to keep to the rules. Don’t forget to wash hands and face, keep your distance and get vaccinated,” Prime Minister said.

The UK Government will also set up a new Health Promotion Agency to combat obesity, improve mental health and promote physical activity. According to Johnson, he himself was “too fat” when he got infected with the coronavirus last year and became seriously ill.

The British vaccination programme has been very successful. Last Saturday, the smallest increase in infection in six months was measured in the UK. In 24 hours there were 4,715 new infections, while the peak in January was 68,000 additional infections.
